Director of Music and Operations

A native of Bergen County NJ, STATIC has been a part of the School of Rock family for several years as a guitar instructor and show director for the South Hackensack and Waldwick School of Rock. As the guitarist and soundscape artist from the band Ours and Jimmy Gnecco, STATIC has been a part of an extensive and exciting tour schedule since 2003. Touring in the United States, Canada, Europe and the United Kingdom, STATIC has been a part of premier headlining acts as well as support for A-Ha, Marylin Manson, Filter, Blue October, Circa Survive, Dredg, Never Ending White Lights, Lucas Rossi, AFI, and Live. STATIC has shared the stage with all-star line ups including Iggy Pop, Slash, Leslie West, Wayne Kramer, Perry Farrell, Jerry Cantrel, Tom Morello, Joe Lynn Turner, and Muz Skillings. His guitar playing can be heard on Columbia Record’s release of ‘Mercy” from the band Ours (produced by Rick Rubin and Jimmy Gnecco), as well as appearing with Jimmy Gnecco on the tracks “Our Final Hymn” and “Dove Colored Sky” from the Canadian group Never Ending White Lights. STATIC has been playing guitar for over 20 years and enjoys performing on many other instruments and gadgets especially when experimenting with the usages of mutli-effects and their applications.

Bio Picture Elena Pagonis
Vocal Instructor

Elena Pagonis has been in the music business as a recording artist, performer and vocal coach for over 20 years. She has toured with some of the greatest players from New York to Nashville and recorded her music in the legendary Electric Lady studio in New York working with producers Eddie Kramer and Dave Rosenthal. Having studied with vocal coaches Katie Agresta in NYC, Jerry Janson, Paula Florea Bel Canto opera, Bob Fitzgerald and MaryJo DuPrey (UCLA), she incorporates the techniques of these renowned voice teachers into her voice lessons. She also specializes in harmony and plays guitar, conga/percussion, and bass. With her great love for music she still performs in NYC and North and South Jersey venues including Circus Maximus at Ceasars in Atlantic City, Wonder Bar, Rodeo Bar, Stone Pony and many others.

Bio Picture Susan Marlett
Vocal & Keyboard Instructor

Susan Marlett teaches voice and piano at the Waldwick School of Rock. She began teaching woodwinds in 1981. She added vocals and keys in 2000. Susan was classically trained on Flute and has played with several orchestras and bands from North Carolina, Baltimore, New York & California. She plays all the Woodwinds (including bagpipes, ask her how long it is to the top if you want to rock and roll). Susan graduated with three degrees from The New School For Social Research and Parsons School of design; with additional study at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. She has also worked with the highly acclaimed vocal coach: Mercedes Hall. Susan has performed both vocally and on flute with numerous acts including world famous flutist: Hubert Laws. These days she can be heard on most Wednesday nights singing and playing Jazz flute in New York. Susan has experience in classical, Jazz, rock, Broadway and pop. She has run ensembles and creative workshops for groups of 200+ people, as well as coached individuals preparing for theatre and TV auditions. She has organized theatre groups and high energy vocal group performances.

Bio Picture Joe McLaughlin
Guitar & Keyboard Instructor / Show Director

Joe McLaughlin has been playing keyboards for 40 years, and playing guitar and singing for over 30 years! In addition to playing guitar, he also plays mandolin, trumpet, and ukulele. His influences range from the 50s to the 90s and include everything from rock, blues, country, metal, and more. Joe comes to School of Rock after teaching formerly at The Music Den in Parsippany. When he doesn’t have an instrument in his hand, Joe enjoys cooking, sy-fy movies, and cats.

Bio Picture Chris Goodlof
Guitar & Bass Instructor / Show Director

Born and raised in Bergen County, Chris Goodlof is both a guitar & bass instructor and show director at the Waldwick School of Rock and the Saddle Brook School of Rock. Chris has been a part of the School of Rock since he was in high school, when he joined as a guitar student at the South Hackensack School of Rock in 2006. As a student, Chris got the opportunity to play onstage with greats like Leslie West from Mountain, Carmine Appice from Vanilla Fudge. At the young age of 23, Chris has a positive attitude and a unique ability to relate to and inspire our students. Chris has come a long way since his days as a guitar student. He is a member of the band OURS, where he plays bass and guitar. Chris has had the opportunity to tour all over the United States with OURS. Before joining OURS, Chris studied under David Bowie's guitarist Carlos Alomar at Stevens Institute of Technology where he majored in Music and Technology. Chris also has a background in recording, mixing, and engineering.

Bio Picture Franky Hernandez
Bass Instructor

Franky Hernandez received his first round of music education from Berklee College of Music from 1978 to 1980. While there, he studied with John Neves, Bruce Gertz and Rich Appleman. He then went onto William Patterson University to study with Rufus Reid, Harold Mabern, Steve Bagby and Ron Naspo. Franky has performed with some notable acts such as Chet Atkins, The Mamas and the Papas, and Lou Christie. He has also played with tons of oldies groups including Fabian, The Angels, Little Peggy March, The Coasters, etc.

Drum Instructor / Show Director

Brett Romnes has been a musician for over 18 years with his primary focus on percussion and music production. He is currently the drummer for recording artist I AM THE AVALANCHE. He has toured with bands such as: Paramore, Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, Minus the Bear, Senses Fail, Billy Talent, Bayside, Saves the Day, Lamb of God, A New Found Glory, Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, The Bouncing Souls and many more.

Guitar Instructor

Dean has been playing guitar for 17 years and has since grown into the local music scene. Dean specializes in 6, 7 and 8 string guitars and 4 to 6 string basses. Most of his influences come from bands that play with these instruments such as Slipknot, Meshuggah, Megadeth, Metallica, and more. His range of influence also includes contemporary hard rock artists such as Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson and classical music such as Beethoven. Dean has played with bands in the metal, punk, blues, and acoustic genre. Currently, he plays with the band Darrow Chemical Company. On top of playing guitars, he has been a roadie and tech for countless local bands working on lighting, sound and all equipment set up and repairs. In his spare time, Dean enjoys working on classic cars, drawing, painting and writing as well as hanging out with his son.

Bio Picture Dennis Zimmer
Drum Instructor / Show Director

Hailing from Pompton Plains, Dennis Zimmer has been playing drums for over 30 years! He received his musical education from Jersey City University and cites Tommy Lee, Chad Smith, and Steve Gadd as his prime influences. During his time of being a full time musician, Dennis has played with Lita Ford and toured with the band OURS. When he’s not playing drums, he’s working on vocals and spending time song writing.

Drum Instructor

Eric See’s interest in drumming began at age three. Although, he’s mainly self-taught, this energetic and creative drummer drew a lot of inspiration from rock heavy weights like, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and KISS, as well as early Motown records. He later fine-tuned his skills by studying other styles, including R&B, jazz, hip-hop, and drum’n'bass.


Throughout his young career, Eric has played in many bands, and he has done numerous sessions in the US and Europe. Some of the notable artists he’s worked with are Adam Hawkins, Peter Mew, G.E. Smith, T. Bone Wolk, Janek Gwizdala, Rob Bailey, Steve Holly, Anthony Esposito, John Eaton, Laura Dawn, Jam Master Jay, Randy Allen, JIVEjones, Lee Horrocks, and The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Currently, Eric’s explosive drumming can be experienced on tour with Just Kait and his own band, Mag Animus.

Guitar Instructor

Guitarist and songwriter Charlie Jones has been a mainstay of the tri-state club scene since the 1970's, and has appeared with many top jazz and R&B greats, including: Bettye Lavette, Big John Patton, Illinois Jaquette, Jimmy McGriff, Bernard Purdie, Jesse Morrison, Larry Young, and Lonnie Youngblood. His performance credits include playing in the Jimi Hendrix Alumni Band and performing at the Joni Mitchell Tribute Concert at Carnegie Hall with Bettye Lavette. He’s been teaching since 1974 and has taught at New York University from 1995 to 2004. He’s been teaching at Ramapo College in Mahwah on and off since 1999.

Bio Picture Peter Pandolfo
Drum Instructor

Peter is a Bergenfield native that has been playing drums for over 40 years. He studied at the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA and is well versed in rock, fusion, latin, metal, and prog rock styles. His musical influences are John Bonham, Bill Bruford, Simon Phillips, Vinnie Coliauta, Mike Mangini, and more. Peter has toured with Billy Sheehan, Vinnie Sarzo, Jake E Lee, Rhett Tyler, Allied Forces and more. He has also played with the Rockland Conservatory of Music in symphony shows. Outside of teaching at Waldwick School of Rock, he spends most of his time gospel drumming for jail and church ministries.

Bio Picture Matt Maroulakos

Matthew Maroulakos is an American songwriter. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Matthew attended William Paterson University, from which he holds a B.A. (magna cum laude) in Musical Studies. Since 2004 he has released 3 records and traveled the country sharing the stage with musical groups such as Katy Perry, The Meat Puppets, and Swedish natives The Sounds.

Bio Picture Michael D'Agostino
Drum Instructor

Mike D’Agostino comes to The Waldwick School of Rock with 40+ years of musical knowledge and experience. Mike studied drums with famed drum instructor Gary Chaffee and Jamey Haddad (Paul Simon, Herbie Hancock) and was a percussion major at SUNY Fredonia and SUNY Potsdam. Mike’s influences range from Peter Gabriel to Led Zeppelin to Miles Davis to Yes and many more. He has toured and played with Mark Egan (Sting, Roger Daltry), Trey Gunn (John Paul Jones, King Crimson) and Carlos Alamor (David Bowie), and Vernon Reid (Living Color) just to name a few. He has 2 bands – Inneroute, a jazz fusion band which he plays drums for, and Blue Halo Effect, which he plays drums, composes and sings for. In addition to playing drums, keyboards, and singing, Mike also composes music & is an established songwriter. He programmed electronic drum sounds for Herbie Hancock, KISS and Yoko Ono. He has composed music for 20th Century Fox's “The X-Files” and most recently music for the indie film “Sweet Lorraine” featuring Tatum O’ Neal. When he’s not doing something music related, Mike likes to fish and hike.

Bio Picture Jim DeSalvo
Engineering & Pro Tools Instructor

Jim DeSalvo is a highly skilled mastering, mixing, and tracking engineer and a university-level professor of Pro Tools software and music recording technology. Here at The Waldwick School of Rock, Jim teaches a Tools of Production seminar, teaching Pro Tools to those who are interested in learning the software and becoming true audio engineers, even if they do not know how to play any instruments. Jim picked up most of his knowledge working at EMI Music in New York, having access to the area’s best recording and mastering studios. He went on to meet and collaborate with engineers from The Hit Factory, BMG Studios, AES events, NAMM Shows and more. He has been the guest speaker at the mastering workshop for the SAE Institute for Audio in New York City and taught class at The Film Makers Educational Cooperative, (FMEC) in Bridgeport, CT. Jim’s artist and writing credits include: Jon Anderson of Yes, Eddie Cascio (Michael Jackson), Phill Collen of Def Leppard, De la Soul, Bobby Caldwell, Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Jackson Brown, The Misfits, and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and more. His network credits include CBS, MTV, The History Channel, and SyFy Channel.
